Step by step

How do I…?

Apply for a business operating permit

  1. Come to the Revenue Unit

Visit the Assembly's Central Administration block at Tatale during office hours and state the type of business you operate.

  2. Complete the application

Provide the business name, location, the nature of the trade and the name of the proprietor.

  3. Assessment

Your fee is assessed against the approved fee–fixing resolution for your business category.

  4. Pay and collect

Pay at the Revenue Unit, insist on an official receipt, and collect your permit. Renew before the expiry date each year.

Get a building plan approved

  1. Secure your land

Obtain documentation from the traditional authority and, where applicable, the Lands Commission.

  2. Prepare drawings

Have a competent draughtsperson prepare a site plan and building drawings.

  3. Submit to Physical Planning

Lodge the drawings with the Physical Planning Department. Construction must not begin before approval.

  4. Inspection

The Works Department inspects at agreed stages. Keep your approval on site.

Register a birth or a death

  1. Report the event

Go to the Births and Deaths Registry at the Assembly. Register as soon as possible after the event.

  2. Bring your evidence

For a birth: the weighing card or hospital record, and the parents' identification. For a death: the medical cause–of–death record or the report of the community leader.

  3. Complete the register entry

The registrar records the particulars and reads them back to you. Check every spelling before signing.

  4. Collect the certificate

Pay the prescribed fee and collect the certificate. Keep it safe — replacements take longer than the original.

Report a broken borehole or a sanitation problem

  1. Note the location

Record the community, the nearest landmark and, for a water point, any identification number on the pump.

  2. Tell your area council or assembly member

Reports routed through the area council reach the Works Department with the community's endorsement.

  3. Or report directly

Use the report form or walk in to the District Water and Sanitation Team.

  4. Follow up

Ask for the reference given to your report so you can check progress.

Apply for support from the Persons With Disability Fund

  1. Speak to Social Welfare

Visit the Social Welfare and Community Development Department to confirm the current application window.

  2. Provide documentation

Bring identification, evidence of disability and details of the support you are requesting — equipment, education, medical costs or livelihood capital.

  3. Assessment by the committee

Applications are assessed against the Fund's guidelines and available allocation.

  4. Notification

Successful applicants are notified through the department and, where relevant, the area council.
